権力はお金から離れ，文化は権力から離れようとした．それが日本文化だった．

貴族に変わって武士が権力を握るようになると，武士はお金から遠ざかったが，それは「お金が権力を腐敗させる」という原理原則があるからである．

これに対してヨーロッパや中国では「権力とはお金に恵まれることである」というのが普通の考え方であった．時によっては権力はお金を多く貰うためのものであり，それこそがこの世の栄達だった．

日本の支配階級がお金を遠ざけた結果，二つのことが起こった．

１） 「お上」は信頼できるものであったので，今でも日本人が「お上」を信用するところが見られる．これはとても素晴らしいことだが，ヨーロッパ文化に影響された現在のお役人や政治家のもとで，やがてこの日本文化が崩れると予想される．（私は抵抗するが）

２） 江戸末期に日本を訪れたヨーロッパ人はそろって日本の民衆が幸福だったと証言している。ヨーロッパでは貴族が豊かな生活をするために政治をおこなったが，日本では「民の幸福」のために政治が行われたからである。
